Atlantic Immigration Pilot project
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot project is a new immigration initiative, launched in March 2017. It is a three-year employer-driven project aimed at addressing skill gaps and labour market needs in Atlantic Canada. The pilot will allow 2000 additional immigrants and their families to come to the four Atlantic Provinces.
Under the pilot, the employers do not need a Labour Market Impact Assessment in order to hire employees from abroad or international students graduating from Canadian Universities/colleges.
Employers interested in participating in the project will first need to get a designation from the provincial government.
The designated employers are then eligible to hire foreign skilled workers and recent international student graduates to fill their vacancies.
Employers can apply for and receive designation status without having a particular candidate for a job in mind.
The Saint John Newcomers Centre has been selected as a Settlement Service Provider for the Atlantic Immigration Pilot project.
We work together with designated employers to ensure that all critical factors are in place for successful integration of new arrivals into the work environment. We also provide one-on-one and group orientation sessions for newly arrived professionals to introduce them to life in their new communities.
As part of our services portfolio, we offer a comprehensive Cultural Competency Training to local employers who have newcomers either among their staff or clients. This training is available to all interested parties, regardless of their participation in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot project.
