Saint John Newcomers Centre Announces Leadership Transition Ensuring Seamless Continuity of Services

Saint John, NB – May 7, 2026 – The Saint John Newcomers Centre (SJNC) today announced a smooth leadership transition, with Cecilia Que stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director effective May 25, 2026, following Mohamed Bagha’s resignation on May 22, 2026. This leadership transition underscores SJNC’s strong foundation and commitment to uninterrupted support for newcomers.

Cecilia Que, our long-serving Office Manager who has been recognized for her strong contributions and leadership within the organization, brings deep organizational knowledge and proven leadership to the role. Following thoughtful discussions and transition planning, the Board appointed her to guide the organization through this period.

Board Chair Dr. Emin Civi emphasized, “This transition is not about one individual carrying the organization alone—it will continue to require collaboration, teamwork, and the collective strengths of many people across SJNC.”

Mohamed Bagha, who has led SJNC through 13 years of growth, reflected, “I am deeply grateful to have served the Saint John Newcomers Centre. My years working here have been the most fulfilling of my career.”

Cecilia Que expressed enthusiasm for her new role: “I hope to build on the growth and stability Mohamed has achieved for SJNC, ensuring we continue delivering exceptional services to our newcomer community.”

With deep organizational knowledge and proven leadership, Que is well-positioned to maintain SJNC’s momentum. The Board will soon launch an open, transparent search for a permanent Executive Director while Que guides the Centre forward.

SJNC remains fully committed to its mission, providing essential settlement services, programs, and community connections. SJNC’s programs, services, and partnerships will continue without interruption throughout the transition. “SJNC remains strong… our focus is to ensure continuity, stability, and support for both staff and the communities we serve,” added Dr. Civi.
