Statement: Cancellation of the Upcoming Culturefest in the Valley

STATEMENT: CANCELLATION OF THE UPCOMING CULTUREFEST IN THE VALLEY

The Saint John Newcomers Centre, organizers of the International Culturefest, regrets to announce the cancellation of the upcoming Culturefest in the Valley.

The International Culturefest is a celebration of the Saint John Region’s rich cultural tapestry. It reflects the region’s increasing cultural diversity through music, dance, food, and interactive activities.

The guiding principle of all cultural festivals across the country is that participants should not promote or disseminate any overt political or religious information at the festivals to reflect the spirit of inclusivity and diversity. Our Code of Conduct and programming for this festival clearly reflects this principle.

For all our previous cultural festivals, we have relied on the good faith of participants to respect this principle, and to date, every festival has been successful, and inclusive. We are committed to creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and represented.

In the interest of maintaining the tradition of inclusive, non-political, and non-religious cultural festivals, we have decided to cancel this event.

Cultural festivals across Canada are experiencing similar challenges. We understand how disappointing this decision is for participants who have worked so hard to make the festival a success, as well as for the general public who are looking forward to attending a fun and family-oriented event.

Our primary responsibility is to all communities and to do our best to ensure that cultural festivals are inclusive and friendly. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
