The Government of Canada Announces Federal Funding to Support Workplace Sexual Harassment Prevention Initiative

Saint John, NB – The Saint John Newcomers Centre (SJNC) is proud to announce new federal funding to support its latest initiative aimed at addressing and preventing sexual harassment in the workplace. This investment will help develop comprehensive, trauma-informed, and inclusive workshops and resources tailored to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and marginalized communities.

The funding was announced today by The Honourable Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John–Rothesay, at the SJNC Community Hub.

“I am pleased to highlight this important federal funding and the great work that the Saint John Multicultural and Newcomers Resource Centre is doing here in Saint John,” said MP Long. “This funding will assist in their work toward ensuring that vulnerable populations and employers alike will have the tools and knowledge they need to address and prevent sexual harassment. I will always support the right to a safe workplace for all.”

Through this initiative, SJNC will develop training materials, digital resources, and interactive workshops to educate, empower, and equip vulnerable populations, and businesses with the tools to recognize, report, and prevent sexual harassment.

“Workplace safety and inclusivity are essential for both employees and employers,” said Mohamed Bagha, Managing Director of SJNC. “This funding will allow us to create accessible, culturally sensitive training that will help newcomers and businesses foster respectful and harassment-free environments for everyone.”

The project will focus on intersectional factors such as gender, race, disability, and socioeconomic status, ensuring that all workers—especially those from vulnerable communities—have access to meaningful education and workplace protections.
