Support to English Speaking Newcomers

We provide individual orientation sessions for anglophone newcomers, assist them in creating settlement roadmaps and individual action plans according to their particular immigration status, and provide general advice on the practicalities of living in Saint John area.

We also run a programme of events to help newcomers better integrate into the local community.

Our recent activities included:

- Useful Fridays: a series of information sessions on various practical aspects of life in Canada, e.g. safe driving in winter, understanding banking, and finance in Canada, Income Tax Clinic (in partnership with Community Volunteer Income Tax Program) and so on.

- Events aimed at promoting cultural awareness, diversity, and multiculturalism, fostering newcomers’ integration into
the local community. For example Saturday Social, Christmas party, Francophone Immigration week, Canada Day celebrations, etc.

- Many other projects promoting multiculturalism and helping newcomers start a new life in Saint John, such as English conversation groups for various levels of English knowledge, discussion groups focused on important topics, the annual Community Scholarship Award, and others.

An important part of our service for all the newcomers to Saint John is our Resource Centre. Recent newcomers can use the printing and photocopying services to help them process the post-arrival paperwork, print out resumes and references, as well as access a wide range of information resources on various aspects of life in Canada in general, and in Saint John in particular. The Centre is free to use, and our staff is always happy to offer assistance and advice.
